The UW-Whitewater volleyball team traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to compete in the fifth annual Teri Clemens Invitational at Washington University and defeated Bethel University 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-15) on Friday night. The Warhawks will wrap-up their tournament play on Saturday.
Keri Klotzbuecher (Clintonville/Clintonville) and
Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) led the way for the Warhawks, 6-3, with nine kills each. The nine kills is the second highest three-game kills total for a Warhawk this season. The season high is ten by Hogan against Eureka back on September 6at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.
Alyse Karls (Dane/Lodi) and
Christina DeGroot (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) tallied twenty-one and twelve assists respectively. The twenty-one assists by Karls ties the second highest number of assists this season for a Warhawk. DeGroot notched twenty-one assists against Illinois Wesleyan on September 5.
Defensively it was
Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) leading the way with twelve digs. Four other 'Hawks totaled five or more digs each in the match.
A strong serving game aided the Warhawks to victory as they racked up fourteen aces. DeGroot raked in six of her own, while Karls and Kelly Sorenson recorded multiple aces as well.
The Warhawks continue competition in St. Louis on Saturday when they face number one ranked Juniata College at 9:30 am, and then face number two ranked Washington University at 5:00 pm.
The Warhawks next home contest is September 19 when they will open up conference play against UW-River Falls at 7:00 pm in the volleyball gymnasium.
