Men's Soccer Opens Season with Tie Against Luther College

The Whitewater men's soccer team tied with Luther College 0-0 for their season opener after two overtime periods played on Friday, August 29 at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

In the first period, each goal keeper stayed busy. Whitewater's goalkeeper, Kevin Spry (Barrington, IL/Barrington), saved all five shot attempts by Luther in the period and Luther's Dickson Kwatapora saved two of Whitewater's three attempts. Despite the multiple shot attempts from each team, neither team was able to produce a goal in the first 45 minutes.

In the 67th and 68th minutes, Luther received two yellow cards, the only yellow cards of the match.  Whitewater shot six times during this period and Luther once. Despite Whitewater's six corner kicks, the score remained 0-0.

During the second overtime, Whitewater attempted three shots, while Luther had one. The 0-0 tie brings the Warhawks' and Luther's records to 0-0-1 overall.

Throughout the game, Whitewater totaled 12 shots with five shots on goal. Luther edged out Whitewater in the shot on goal category with seven of their eight shots being on goal. George Diener of Luther topped the field with three shots and two of them on goal. Spry contributed seven saves for Whitewater.

The next game for the Warhawks will be Saturday, August 30 against Wisconsin Lutheran College with a 6:00 start time.
