Warhawks Fall to Central College

UW-Whitewater women's volleyball lost to Central College 2-3 in their second match of the day.

Whitewater fell behind the Dutch from Central College right away in the first game. The Warhawks had to try and overcome a seven point deficit two times in the game but were unable to make the comeback and lost 21-25.

The Warhawks came out swinging in game two where they jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead. A six point scoring run by the 'Hawks gave them a seven point lead 17-10. However, the Dutch came back with a 8-3 run of their own to bring the score to 21-18 and forcing coach Boudreau to call a timeout. Whitewater went on to win 25-23.

Game three went back and forth with neither team having a lead of more than two points until Whitewater went on a scoring run and forced a timeout by Central with the score of 18-14. Central came back with a three point run to up the score to 21-18. A big block by Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) ended game three and gave Whitewater the win 25-19.

UW-W had to try to work from behind in game four as Central had a nine point lead 18-9. Whitewater tried to battle back but it wasn't enough as they lost game four 20-25.

UW-W fell behind early in game five after Central got out to an early lead 7-2. The score was 4-8 Central at the side switch. Coach Boudreau called a timeout with a score of 13-8 but nothing could break Central's momentum. The 'Hawks battled back but ended up losing 15-11.

 Three Warhawks hit double digits in kills including Natalie Starken (Muskego/Muskego) and Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) with eleven and Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) with ten. Hogan added three service aces. Starken and Alyse Karls (Dane/Lodi) headed the backcourt with seven digs a piece.

UW-W will continue play in the Whitewater Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, August 30 with a game at 11:00 against St. Benedict's.
