Box Score

In a low scoring affair UW-Stevens Point jumped on top immediately in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by catcher Doug Coe (sr).

In the top of the seventh UW-W threatened with runners on the corners and only one out when Billy Johnson (Kenosha/Kenosha Tremper) flew out to left field and Jordan Stine (Merrill/Merrill) was thrown out at home to end the inning.

A solo home run by UW-Stevens Point center fielder Brandon Schediler (sr) gave the Pointers a 3-0 lead going into the top of the ninth.

Tom Corcoran (Rochester, MN/Rochester) led off the top of the ninth with a single, but the next three batters flew-out, struck-out and popped-out to end the game.

UW-Stevens Point pitcher Garret Nix went eight innings surrendering only four hits and striking out nine.  Nix is 8-3 this season.  #Mike Jacobson (Oak Creek/Oak Creek)# went seven and two-thirds for the Warhawks allowing three UW-SP runs to take the loss for UW-W.

UW-Whitewater was led by Corcoran who went 2x4.  No other Whitewater batters recorded multiple hits.

Prior to today's match-up with the Pointers, the Warhawks have been involved in six games this season that have totalled five runs or less and only two of those were conference games.  The Warhawks average over nine runs a game against conference foes while surrendering slightly over five.  The Warhawks (35-8) had only been shutout one other time this season.

UW-Stevens Point (28-14) earns the automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III tournament by winning the conference tournament.  UW-SP has won the conference tournament in 2007, 2006, 2005, 2002, 2001, and 1999.

The loss does not necessarily end the Warhawk's season as they await the announcement of at-large bids to the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division III national tournament.  The announcement is expected to be made early Monday morning, May 12.  Information will be posted on the UW-W website at http://www.uwwsports.com
