Whitewater got in front quickly, scoring three in the first inning, two coming on a home run by sophomore designated hitter Nikole Schulty (Woodstock, IL/Woodstock), and the third on a RBI single by freshman third baseman Lauren Rankin (Marengo, IL/Marengo). UW-W added two more in the second with the help of junior centerfielder Amy Gahl (Beloit/Parkview), who doubled in a run, then stole third and came home on an error by the catcher.
Whitewater ended the game early, with the WIAC eight-run rule, by adding three more in the sixth on a home run by sophomore shortstop Amanda LeBeau (Worth, IL/Richards).
UW-W senior first baseman Meghann Brennfleck (Fox River Grove, IL/Cary-Grove) led both teams, going 3x3. Freshman lefthander Jessica Stang (Minnetonka, MN/Minnetonka) went the distance, scattering four hits while walking two and striking out ten. The ten K's equals her season high, and the total is tied for sixth in the UW-W record book.
Whitewater jumped ahead, again, in game two, scoring twice in the first and second and adding one in the third to lead 5-0 after three innings. Schulty and Lauren Cruz drove in runs in the first, and Schulty added another RBI with a double in the second, and Cruz lead off the third with a home run.
Point cut the margin with two runs in the fourth, both accounted for by a home run from senior catcher Korryn Brooks. The Pointers plated two more in the fifth, again with the long ball, coming off the bat of senior second baseman Chelsea McIlquham. UW-W's Dianna Frisbie (Juneau/Dodgeland) gave up just one more hit over the last two innings to pick up the win, making her 3-0. Frisbie struck out four and didn't allow a walk.
UW-W is 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-Stevens Point is 13-5 overall and 1-3 in league play.
