game two
A scoreless first inning and a 1-0 Whitewater lead after two was the calm before the storm. The Warhawks sent 11 men to the plate in the third inning, scoring eight runs on seven hits. Five batters drove in a run, with second baseman Ben Kuhlman (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) accounting for two with a two out home run, his third of the year.
Whitewater made it 10-0 with another run in the fifth, but La Crosse fought back with four in their half of the inning to make it 10-4. Whitewater scored five more in the seventh, with the aid of two-run doubles by Johnson and shortstop Greg Harder (Waukesha/Waukesha West), and the Warhawks closed it out early by the run deficit rule.
Johnson and Harder both drove in four runs in the win, and designated hitter Tom Corcoran (Rochester, MN/Rochester) went 3x4. Third baseman Tony Peterson went 2x4 with a RBI for the Eagles. Senior lefty Mike Jacobson (Oak Creek/Oak Creek) went six-plus innings to up his record to 6-1.
