Warhawks Top Eagles 5-0

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team advanced to the final of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association qualifying tournament by defeating UW-La Crosse 5-0 on Saturday, April 26 at the Janesville Athletic Club in Janesville, Wis.  With the win, the 19-8 Warhawks, set a school record for duel meet wins in a season.

Due to limited indoor court availability all matches were abandoned once the Warhawks won the fifth and deciding match.

With wins in singles Ingrid Stensvaag (Palatine, IL/Palatine) improves to 19-14 and Amy Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) improves to 18-4. 

The previous UW-Whitewater women's tennis record for duel meet wins in a season was 18, which occurred in 1983-84.  The Warhawks have also set a record for most wins in a two year period, accumulating 36 victories since the fall of 2006. In 2006-2007 the men's tennis team, also led by Coach Frank Barnes, set an overall school record for tennis duel meet wins in a season with 25.

The Warhawks faced the Eagles earlier in the academic year, winning 7-2 on October 6. 

UW-W will face the winner of the UW-Eau Claire vs. UW-River Falls match at 4:00 pm at Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wis. The winner of the championship match will earn the WIAC conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

UW-La Crosse was the WIAC representative in the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament in 2007. The Eagles, 13-7, will face the loser of the UW-River Falls vs. UW-Eau Claire at 2:30 pm at the Janesville Athletic Club.
