Warhawks Beat Blugolds, Qualify for Nationals

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team defeated UW-Eau Claire 8-1 on Saturday, April 26 at Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wis.  The win qualifies the Warhawks for the National Collegiate Athletic Assocition Division III tournament for the first time in the thirty-three year history of the program.  The Warhawks also reached the twenty win mark in dual matches for the first time in school history.

The win gives Frank Barnes 75 dual match win as the women's coach for UW-W. He ties Ron Wangerin for second in the Warhawk record books, only trailing David Sturdyvin's 91 victories.

In senior Tiffany Dawson (Cary, IL/Cary Grove)'s four year career at UW-Whitewater, the Warhawks have won 64 matches. The only four year period in Warhawk history that was more successful was from 1982-1986 when UW-W compiled 65 dual match wins. Dawson has also been a member of two of UW-Whitewater's eight WIAC team championships.

Ingrid Stensvaag (Palatine, IL/Palatine) picked up her twentieth win of the season, Amy Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) and Jenny Woyahn (Waukesha/Waukesha South) got their nineteenth wins, and Dawson got her eighteenth win of the year.

This is the second time this season that UW-Whitewater has faced UW-Eau Claire.  The Warhawks pulled out a 7-2 win on October 5 in Eau Claire. The Blugolds end the season with a 14-9 record and the Warhawks conclude the regular season with a 20-8 mark.

The Warhawks will find out on Monday, April 28 where the NCAA regional tournament will be held. Competition will begin on May 2.  Please check uwwsports.com for additional tournament information.
