Men's Tennis Defeats Luther College 5-4

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team defeated Luther College 5-4 on Friday, March 7, at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin.  With the win the Warhawks improve to 7-4 on the season and the Norse fall to 10-4.

The Warhawks trailed 3-4 with the flight 2 and 5 singles matches remaining.  Freshman Tim Moller (Stevens Point/Stevens Point Area High School) tied up the match at 4-4 by winning the second and third sets.  Freshman Gianandrea Heyer (Lugano, Switzerland/Bellinzona HS) was last on court and gave the Warhawks the win by holding at 5-5 and breaking Martin's serve at 6-5.

Since the ITA switched to nine point scoring in the fall of 2006 the Warhawks have gone 8-0 in matches with a final score of 5-4. 

The Warhawks, ranked twenty-sixth in the nation, have defeated the Norse five consecutive years.

Junior Alex Lowe (Oswego, IL/Oswego) improves to 4-2 at number one singles with his victory over Max Busch (ranked nineteenth in the Central Region).

The Warhawks host Elmhurst College on Saturday, March 8 in the Kachel Fieldhouse at 9:30 am.  The Warhawks will travel to St. Peter, MN on March 15 to face NCAA DII opponent St. Cloud State and the top ranked team in Division III, Gustavus Adolphus.
