In a match-up of WIAC teams in Florida, UW-Whitewater defeated UW-Superior 8-7 by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to improve their record to 2-1.  After a scoreless first, the Warhawks scored three runs in the second, highlighted by 2 RBI single from Suzanne Gersich (Wadsworth, IL/Warren), and two more in the third to jump out to a 5-0 lead.  After trading runs in the fourth UW-Superior scored one run in the fifth and five in the seventh to take a 7-6 lead.  Gersich led of the bottom of the seventh with a home run to tie the game and the Warhawks loaded the bases.  With one out Liz Yucuis (S. Elgin, IL/St. Charles East) hit a ball to third, Nicole Bothun (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) was thrown out at home but an error by the Yellowjackets allowed Lauren Cruz (Des Plaines, IL/Maine West) to score from second with the game winner.

Amanda LeBeau (Worth, IL/Richards) led the Warhawks going 3 for 3 in the game with two doubles and 2 runs scored.    Suzanne Gersich (Wadsworth, IL/Warren) was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI on a home run and a single.  Nikole Schulty (Woodstock, IL/Woodstock) picked up the win for UW-W.

The Warhawks were leading 11-4 in the fourth inning against Alverno College when lightning forced the game to be postponed.  They will try to complete the game later if they are able.

 UW-Whitewater will play two games tomorrow, Sunday, March 23, in Fort Myers, Florida.  They will play SUNY Fredonia at 11 AM and Union College at 1 PM.  The Warhawks home opener will be April 2, at 3 PM against Lawrence University.
