Warhawks Defeat Bethel University in Both Games of Double Header

The UW-Whitewater men's baseball team (6-1) defeated Bethel University (3-5) 5-0 in game one and 2-1 in game two of a double-header Friday, March 21, at S. Charlotte Regional Park in Port Charlotte, FL.

In game one, the Warhawks took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Ben Kuhlmann (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest), had two RBI's batting in Tom Corcoran (Rochester, MN/Rochester) and Joe Munn (Pleasanton, CA/Pleasanton) with a single.  Then Ben Prather (Chicago, IL/James B. Conant) singled, which scored Billy Johnson (Kenosha/Kenosha Tremper).

Whitewater scored again in the fourth inning.  An RBI single by Max Cordio (Whitewater/Whitewater) made the score 4-0.  Whitewater finished the scoring for the game in the sixth inning.  With Greg Harder (Waukesha/Waukesha West) on third, Mike Ross (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South) pinch ran for Munn on first.  Ross stole second allowing Harder to run home for the score.

#Randy Johnson# pitched five innings of the shut-out and allowed six hits and only one walk.  Gregg #Reik# pitched the last two innings allowing only two hits and one walk.

Game two was a much closer contest.  Bethel University scored first in the top of the second on an RBI ground out to the pitcher by Rob Lang. The Warhawks tied the game in the fifth inning off of a sacrifice fly by Harder that scored Kuhlmann.

The score remained tied 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh.  Kuhlmann singled.  Prather grounded out to the pitcher, which advanced Kuhlmann to second.  Then Matt Schliewe (Horicon/Horicon) pinch hit for Cordio and grounded out to second, which advanced Kuhlmann to third.  Harder ended the game by hitting an RBI single to score Kuhlmann.

Both UW-Whitewater and Bethel University went with one pitcher for the full game.  While earning the win for the Warhawks, Aaron Dott (Green Lake/Green Lake), threw seven strike-outs.

The Warhawks next competition will be a varsity reserve match Saturday, March 22, against Bethel University at S. Charlotte Regional Park in Port Charlotte, FL.  The Warhawks next varsity competition will be Monday, March 24, against St. Olaf College at Northport HS in Northport, FL.
