Whitewater Takes Two From Edgewood to Open Season

The UW-Whitewater baseball team won two games against Edgewood College Friday, Febuary 29 played at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN, 4-3 and 10-4.

Whitewater won the first game 4-3 after the pitching duo of Aaron Dott (Green Lake/Green Lake) and Adam Dominick (Waukesha/Waukesha West) compiled 13 strikeouts against Edgewood.  First baseman Ben Prather (Chicago, IL/James B. Conant) led the Warhawk hitters, going 3x4 from the plate with two RBI's. Whitewater's defense shut out Edgewood until the fifth inning where Edgewood came back with three runs to tie the game at three. Junior outfielder, Jordan Stine (Merrill/Merrill) led off the eighth with a base hit and came around to score on an RBI single by Prather to seal the win.

Game two started with the Warhawks down 3-1 after the first inning. Whitewater came back with a five run second inning to go ahead 6-3. Senior right fielder Tom Corcoran (Rochester, MN/Rochester) and sophomore designated hitter Jeff Donovan (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa East) led the Whitewater hitters. Corcoran came in with four RBI's and Donovan went 2-3 with two doubles, a walk, was hit by a pitch, and came around to score three times. The Warhawks had three pitchers take the mound, senior Mike Jacobson (Oak Creek/Oak Creek) picking up the win with relief help from senior Randy Johnson (Kenosha/Kenosha Tremper), and junior Joe Munn (Pleasanton, CA/Pleasanton).  They combined efforts to shut out Edgewood after the third inning and tally six strikeouts with just one walk.

Whitewater travels back to the Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN Friday, Febuary 3 to face Augsburg College at 10 pm.
