Warhawks Defeat Titans To Hold WIAC Lead

UW-Whitewater, ranked fourth in the D3hoops.com poll, held on to a share of first place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 86-78 win over UW-Oshkosh in Kolf Fieldhouse Wednesday night.

UW-W is tied with UW-Eau Claire, a 76-67 winner over UW-Platteville, for first place in the WIAC with both at 13-2.

Whitewater led 43-31 at halftime, with senior center Lindsey Buechner (Cross Plains/Middleton) scoring 12 points to lead UW-W.  Senior guard Whitney Tyriver had 12 for the Titans.

The Warhawks opened the second half with a 12-4 run to make it 55-35 with 15:19 remaining.  Whitewater held on to a double digit lead until 1:46 was left in the game.

UW-W junior center Tiffany Morton (Beloit/Memorial) led both teams with 20 points, making 8-13 shots from the floor, and 13 rebounds.  Whitewater had a double double double (yes, two of them) with Buechner contributing 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Sophomore guard Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe) added 14 points

Tyriver had 17 points for the Titans, with freshman guard Erin Baganz adding 15.  Freshman guards Michelle Boeder and Laura Ebbens scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Whitewater had 12 steals in the game, Oshkosh had three.   Whitewater also won the turnover battle, being charged with 12 turnovers to 20 for UW-O.

UW-Whitewater, 22-2 overall, will close the regular season Saturday at home, hosting UW-River Falls at 1:00 in Kachel Gym in Williams Center.  The Warhawks will also host a WIAC Tournament first round game, against a team to be determined, Tuesday, February 26 at 7:00.
