UW-Whitewater, ranked third in the D3hoops.com poll, is all alone in first place after a 94-64 rout of UW-Platteville Wednesday night in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Kachel Gym. The Warhawks (20-1 overall, 12-1 conference) move past UW-Eau Claire, which lost to UW-Stevens Point 57-43.

The Pioneers kept the game close early on, as they trailed by only six, 14-8, at the 13:04 mark in the first half. But the Warhawks took off on a 15-0 run to push the lead to 29-8 at 7:50 on a three-point basket by sophomore Nicole Bundy (Fredonia/Ozaukee).
At halftime UW-W led 41-18. UW-P shot only 22.2% (6-27) from the field and committed fourteen turnovers. Whitewater had only six turnovers and shot 40% (16-40) from the field.
In the second half the UW-Whitewater lead dipped below twenty points only once at 17:19, when they led 45-26. The final margin, 94-64, was the largest of the game.
Sophomore guard Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe) had a game-high twenty-four points to lead four Warhawks in double figures. Sophomore center Tiffany Morton (Beloit/Memorial) scored sixteen, junior forward Meghan Schmidt (Port Washington/Port Washington) added fifteen, and sophomore guard Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) contributed eleven. Sonntag led UW-W with four assists and had a game-high four steals.
Junior guard Lisa Wubben scored twenty-points and dished out eight assists to lead the Pioneers. Freshman guard Angie Vamstad and junior forward Lisa Grantman added eleven points apiece.
Whitewater's scoring margin showed up at the line and behind the arc. The Warhawks made 21-29 free throws (P 12-19) and 9-20 three-pointers (P 4-12).
With the loss, UW-Platteville falls to 10-12 overall and 4-9 in the WIAC.
The Warhawks will travel to UW-Stevens Point (18-4, 9-4) Saturday.
