Warhawks Victorious Over Wheaton

UW-Whitewater, ranked sixth and seventh in the two national Division III polls, upped its record to 5-1 with an 88-56 win over Wheaton College (IL) Tuesday night at Kachel Gym in Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Whitewater led 49-25 at halftime, limiting Wheaton to twenty-seven percent accuracy from the floor. 

The closest the Thunder could get was 62-40 with 13:27 left in the game.  The final score was Whitewater's largest margin of the contest.

The Warhawks had three players score in double figures, led by Tiffany Morton (Beloit/Memorial) with 21. Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe) added 12 while Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) contributed 11.  Morton was one rebound shy of her fourth double-double of the season, grabbing nine rebounds to tie teammate Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville) for game high honors.  Hendrickson dished out a game high five assists.

Leading the Thunder in scoring were Kathleen Fidelia and Jamie Jones, both with 15 points.  Jones led Wheaton with seven rebounds, and Lindsey Brenneman led the Thunder with four assists.

The Warhawk defense held Wheaton to 33% field goal shooting in the game, while UW-W shot 52%. 

The Thunder falls to 3-5. 

Whitewater will play at Cornell College (IA) Thursday, December 11, and then get back into WIAC play at UW-Superior Saturday the 13th.  The next home game for the Warhawks will be December 20 at the Kachel Gym versus Rockford College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
