Oldenburg Named Outstanding Wrestler at Wabash Tourney

UW-Whitewater's Max Oldenburg (Burbank, IL/Reavis) was named the Outstanding Wrestler and also received the Most Pins Award after sweeping through the 125 pound class at the Little State Wrestling Tournament hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana Friday-Saturday.

Oldenburg won five matches, three of them by fall.  Seeded third in tourney, Oldenburg won his first three matches by pin, then 7-2 in the semifinal, and defeated P.J. Martinez of CMB 13-1 in the championship match.  Oldenburg is 9-1 this season.

David Casper (Westby/Westby) brought home a second individual trophy for the Warhawks, going 3-0 to capture the184 pound class.  Casper pinned his first opponent, then won 9-6, and defeated Chad Craft of Mount Saint Joseph 6-5 in the title bout.  Casper is 10-3 overall.

Other Warhawks placing the tourney included Sean Evans (Richmond, IL/Richmond Burton), fourth at 285 after going 4-2 in the meet.  Corey Schmidt (Homewood, IL/Homewood Flossmoor) finished fifth at 157, going 3-2.  Kyle Wacholder, 2-2 in the meet, tied for sixth place.  Reid Dickerson (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) added a seventh place finish at 174 pounds with a 3-2 record at the meet.  No team scores were kept at this meet.

UW-Whitewater split its team to compete in two tournaments this weekend.  One group wrestling in Indiana and the other at the Wisconsin Open hosted by UW-Parkside.

UW-Whitewater, ranked tenth in the National Division III Poll, travel to UW-Lacrosse on Tuesday, December 9 at 7:00 to take on the Eagles.
