Schmidt Wins at 285 to Top Warhawk Effort at Wisconsin Open

Jon Schmidt (Menomonee Falls/Hartford) won the 285 pound class with four consecutive wins to highlight UW-Whitewater's participation in the Wisconsin Open.  Schmidt pinned his first two opponents, narrowly won 6-5 in the semifinals, and captured his title with a 10-3 win over Zak Adomanis of McKendree College.

Josh Miller (Arcadia/Arcadia) and Sean Pietrzyk (Salina, KS/Salina South) also placed for the Warhawks.  Miller went 3-2 in meet and placed fourth at 125 pounds, and Pietrzyk finished sixth with a 2-1 mark in the meet.  Schmidt is 6-0 this season, Miller 7-3, and Pietrzyk 8-2.

No team scores were kept in the meet.

UW-W split its squad this weekend, sending part of the team to the Little State Tournament hosted by Wabash College

UW-Whitewater, ranked tenth in the national Division III poll, will travel to UW-La Crosse on Tuesday, December 9 at 7:00 to take on the Eagles.
