Bautista, ranked number one in Division III, split his matches, with his loss coming to the defending Division I champion, Angel Escobedo of Indiana.
UW-W coach Tim Fader had high praise for his team's effort. "There is no reason for Division I schools, based on their tournament selection formula, to wrestle outside Division I, but I was pleased that they gave us the opportunity. At the end of the match the Indiana coach complimented our wrestlers on their effort, and we hope to continue this relationship. We can, and will, learn a lot from matches like this."
UW-W is 5-3 in dual matches this season, but all five losses have come at the hands of scholarship opponents. The Warhawks are 4-0 versus Divsion III, and 1-0 vs. two year schools.
UW-Whitewater will take a break from competition for the holidays, then return to action January 9-10 at the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Whitehill tourney annually gathers many of the top teams from the mid-Atlantic region.
