Warhawks and Titans Play to a Draw

After 110 minutes the UW-Whitewater men's soccer game ended just as it started, in a scoreless tie. The Warhawks controlled much of the game in their final regular season match against UW-Oshkosh, but after two overtimes at Fiskum Field on Saturday, neither team was able to score. The Warhawks are now 9-5-3 overall and the Titans 11-5-2.

UW-W outshot the Titans 24-10 in the game with ten of those shots on goal, but Oshkosh goalkeeper James Pike remained steadfast the entire game. Half of UW-O's shots were on goal, but Andrew Krueger (New Berlin/Catholic Memorial) denied all accurate attempts.

Whitewater was aggressive the entire match and was flagged for seven offside calls to Oshkosh's five. To go along with the aggressive play the game was littered with numerous fouls by both teams including four yellow cards; three for UW-W and one for UW-O.

Sophomore Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) had the best opportunities for the Warhawks as he tallied six shots on goal, one late in the game that deflected off the cross bar. The ensuing shot, off the deflection, was by Cory Meyer (Prairie du Sac/Sauk Prairie), but the UW-O goalkeeper found himself in the right position to make the save and preserve the tie.

The Warhawks and Titans will both await the announcement of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament field on Monday (November 10). Since UW-W is not affiliated with a conference they will wait to see if they earned an at-large berth.
