Warhawks Defeat Edgewood 89-63

UW-Whitewater improves their win streak to five with win over Edgewood College 89-63 Saturday night, November 29 in Kachel Gym of the Williams Center.

With the score tied at six in the first period the Warhawks went on a 7-0 run. Their biggest lead of the first half was 14 with just 1:11 left on the clock. Whitewater shot 57% going 20-35 from the floor in the first half. At halftime the score was 47-34 in favor of the 'Hawks.

Whitewater shot 55% from the floor to Edgewood's 44%. The 'Hawks out rebounded the Eagles 38 to 24 with most of the difference shown in defensive rebounds as Whitewater had 27 to Edgewood's 18. Whitewater's stellar defense that came up with 12 steals, coupled with explosive offense that drew 27 fouls on the Eagles, got the 'Hawks to the free throw line 30 times converting on 21.

Myles McKay (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) was the high scorer for both teams with 25. Three other Warhawks joined him in double digits including Kori Vernon (Madison/Memorial) who went 8-8 with 17 points, Dustin Mitchell (Lac Du Flambeau/Lakeland) added 16 and Matt Goodwin (Milwaukee/King) pitched in with 11. McKay added seven assists. Vernon had the team high for rebounds grabbing eight off the boards for Whitewater. 

The leading scorer for the Eagles was Derek Nkemnji with 14. Two other Edgewood players were also in double figures including Jon Ciche and Aaron Ritschard with 12 and 11 respectively. Ciche added a game high 10 rebounds for the only player to grab a double double in the game.

The win increases Whitewater's win streak to five as they begin the season 5-0. Edgewood drops to 1-4.

The Warhawks will travel to Naperville, IL to face North Central College Wednesday, December 3 at 7:30 pm.
