Warhawks Pull Away From Edgewood

The score was a little closer this year, but the result was the same.

After routing the Eagles by 42 last season, the Warhawks led by just nine points at halftime, but they pulled away in the second half for a 76-57 victory.

UW-Whitewater, ranked first in both polls, began the second half on a 14-6 run to push the margin to 17, and Edgewood never closed the gap to less than 12 points.

Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville) (13) and Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe) (12) combined for 25 points, and Mary Donohoo (Wauwatosa/West) and Rachel Woolever (Colfax/Colfax) added nine apiece.

Megan Scheele led the Eagles with 24 points.

The Warhawks shot 41.2 percent (30-for-64) from the field, compared to just 27.6 percent (19-for-58) for Edgewood.

The teams combined for 45 turnovers.  UW-W committed 20, while the Eagles were guilty of 25 turnovers.

Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) and Sarah Moran (Waukesha/South) led the Warhawks with five assists, and Tiffany Morton (Beloit/Memorial) led UW-W with 10 rebounds.

Five Edgewood players had five rebounds, and Scheele led them with five assists.

The Warhawks play again on Saturday, November 29, when they host Loras College at 7:00 p.m. for Parents Day.
