#1 Whitewater Defeats Concordia 67-59 in Season Opener

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team, ranked number one in both the USA Today and D3hoops.com preseason polls, defeated Concordia University (WI) 67-59 in their season opener Friday at the Ripon College Tournament in Ripon, Wisconsin.

UW-W topped the Falcons in almost every category. In the first half the Warhawks shot 53.6% from the field to the Falcons' 33.3%. The Warhawks shot 23-29 from the free throw line in the game to Concordia's 13-22. Whitewater also out rebounded the Falcons grabbing 38 to the Falcons' 28.

Senior center Tiffany Morton (Beloit/Memorial) moved up in the Warhawk record book tying for second place with her fourteenth career double-double. She led the Warhawks with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville) added 10 points and 5 rebounds. Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe) had four steals and four assists.

Concordia had two players in double digits for scoring, Pearl Wallace and Asia Beckum had 16 apiece. Wallace also led the Falcons with seven rebounds and six steals.

The season opening win starts Whitewater off at 1-0 and drops Concordia to 0-1.

The Warhawks will continue play in the Ripon College Tournament in Ripon Saturday, November 22 against host Ripon College.
