The UW-Whitewater men's basketball team overcame 14 three-point field goals by Wisconsin Lutheran to win 87-78 on Saturday night in Kachel Gymnasium in Whitewater. The Warhawks, down four at the half, outscored the Warriors by 13 in the second half.

Matt Goodwin (Milwaukee/King), a D3hoops.com preseason All-American, led UW-W with 24 points. Goodwin made two of six three-point attempts and nine of sixteen overall.
Myles McKay (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) was next in scoring with 21 points while nabbing nine rebounds. Two other Warhawks,
Chris Vines (Milwaukee/Washington) and
Billy Kolinske (Waukesha/Catholic Memorial), also scored in double-digits in UW-W's home opener.
Leading the three point barrage for Wisconsin Lutheran was Kyle Plath who made seven of twelve from long distance. Ben Ziesemer had four of his own long-range bombs.
The Warhawks countered the Warriors strong perimeter shooting by knocking down nearly 58 percent of their shots in the game; 62 percent in the second half. The Warhawks also found their way to the charity stripe twenty-two times, knocking down sixteen. Wisconsin Lutheran only attempted 12 free throws in the game, but connected on ten.
The Warhawks, perhaps learning a lesson from their exhibition game against the Badgers, out-rebounded the Warriors 35-21. The Badgers out-rebounded the Warhawks by seventeen in their exhibition game on Tuesday.
Whitewater's overall record is 1-0 and Wisconsin Lutheran is now 0-1.
UW-W returns to the hardwood on November 18 when they host Carroll University at 7:00 pm in the Kachel Gymnasium.
