Wheaton College, ranked nineteenth in the National Soccer Coaches Association Division III poll, defeated UW-Whitewater 1-0 Friday night in a match played in Wheaton, Illinois.

The teams battled to a scoreless draw through the first half, and even halfway through the second period neither had notched a goal. It wasn't until 82:09 that Stephen Mesko scored an unassisted goal, his sixth goal of the season, for what proved to be the game winner.

Kevin Spry (Barrington, IL/Barrington), now 4-4-1, made four saves. His Wheaton counterpart, Joe Selvagio, also had four. Selvagio, who recorded his third shutout, came in to the game with a 0.70 goals against average.
Wheaton had ten shots on goal to seven for UW-W. Whitewater had twelve fouls to eight for Wheaton, and both teams had two corner kicks. Wheaton was whistled for offisdes four times while Whitewater had no offsides called.
UW-Whitewater is 5-4-2 this season. Wheaton, with their fifth consecutive win, is 8-2-1. Whitewater has been involved in seven shutouts this season, with a 3-3-1 mark in those contests.
UW-Whitewater will host Illinois Wesleyan University Wednesday the 8th at 4:00. The game will be played at Fiskum Field, located on the north end of campus, north of Kachel Fieldhouse and west of Perkins Stadium.
