The last team that won all nine flights of the WIAC tournament was Marquette University on 1982. This conference title for Whitewater is the ninth in school history and their third back to back win.

Eight of the nine Whitewater singles players and doubles teams were ranked first in their respective bracket. Schaefer's record of 22-3 (.880 winning percentage) is the highest record in the number one flight in school history. The previous record was held by Connie O'Neill in '82-83 and was 21-3 with a .875 winning percentage. Schaefer is also the 12th person in WIAC history to be the number one singles and number one doubles champion.

The number one doubles team of Schaefer/ Siemon puts a mark in the school history book as well. Their record of 16-3 moves them into fourth place for the best win-loss percentage for number one doubles flight of .842.

Jenny Woyahn (Waukesha/Waukesha South) is now a repeat number six singles winner from a 2007 victory. Kara Amundson (Prairie du Sac/Sauk Prairie) was a number five flight singles winner in 2005 and adds another victory with her win in the number three doubles flight. Brittany Gering (Greendale/Greendale) and Siemon won the number three doubles flight in 2007 and each now added a win in their respective singles and doubles brackets for the 2008 season.

Day One Results

The UW-Whitewater women's tennis team advanced all of their competitors to the championships or semifinals after the first day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

All three doubles teams competed on Saturday and advanced to their respective championship matches in their flights.  The number one and number two doubles tandems received first round byes and began competition in the semifinals.  The number three doubles team, Kara Amundson (Prairie du Sac/Sauk Prairie) and Brittany Gering (Greendale/Greendale), received a three seed and began competition in the quarterfinals.

Amundson and Gering were the first to compete for UW-W at the three doubles slot.  They knocked off the number six seed from UW-Stout, 8-3.  Amundson and Gering advanced to the semifinals where they upset number two seed UW-La Crosse, 8-4.

The duo of Ingrid Stensvaag (Palatine, IL/Palatine) and Michelle Daciolas (Roselle, IL/Lake Park), two doubles, defeated the fourth seeded UW-Oshkosh team while Kalla Schaefer (Madison/Madison Memorial) and Amy Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake South), one doubles, defeated the fifth seeded UW-Eau Claire team.  All three doubles teams will compete in the championships tomorrow.

All UW-W singles players received number one seeds and therefore also received first-round byes which meant no singles competition for the Warhawks on Saturday.  On Sunday, all six singles players will begin their respective flights of competition in the semifinals.

The WIAC team title will be determined by using a combination of the regular season dual meet standings and the conference championship results.  The finish in the regular season standings accounts for one-third of the criteria, while the WIAC championship accounts for the remaining two-thirds.  The Warhawks finished first in the regular season standings.

UW-W won the conference tournament last season and a right to host the WIAC final four in the spring.  The Warhawks also won the conference tournament in 2004.
