Warhawks Celebrate Senior Day with Win

The UW-Whitewater women's soccer team defeated UW-Stout 2-1 Saturday October 18 afternoon on Senior Day at Fiskum Field in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

UW-Stout opened the scoring, with the only goal of the first half, at 25:08 on an unassisted tally by Jessica Price from a right angle.  It was Price's team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Blue Devil lead ended almost as soon as halftime was over, with Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) knotting the score, unassisted, from straight out in front of the goal at 47:51 with her sixth of the year.  Whitewater kept the pressure on, playing in the Stout end, finally breaking the deadlock at 69:26 on Mary Donohoo (Wauwatosa/West)'s twelfth goal of the season with an assist from Gabby Fenzel (Mequon/Homestead).  Donohoo leads the team in goals and points, and this goal was her fourth game winner of 2008.

Whitewater had twenty-two shots, twelve on goal.  Stout got off nine shots, five on net.  Whitewater had Mary Scanlin (Waunakee/Waunakee) in goal, Stout's netminder was Taylor Randle. 

Whitewater had ten corner kicks, eight fouls and one offside.  Stout had two corner kicks, eleven fouls and also one offisde call.

The win lifts UW-Whitewater above the .500 mark, overall at 8-7-0, and in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 4-3-0.  Stout is 5-8-3 overall and 3-3-2 in league play.

The Stout match, the final home match of the regular season, was Senior Day.  Alyssa Spaude (Hartland/Arrowhead) and Donohoo were recognized after the match.  Whitewater's next contest will be Tuesday, October 21 at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois.
