Mary Donohoo (Wauwatosa/West) scored two goals to lead UW-Whitewater to victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday at Uihlein Park in Milwaukee. The Warhawks are now 7-6 this season while MSOE falls to 9-5.
After a 1-1 tie at the half, three goals were scored in less than five minutes.
Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) scored just forty-six seconds into the second half to give UW-W a 2-1 lead. Less than three minutes later, MSOE's Jessica Axt received a pass from Mindy Donald and found the back of the net to tie the game, 2-2. Then, just over one minute later, Donohoo scored her second goal of the game to give the Warhawks the lead for good and cap the scoring for the game.
Becky Cera (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa West) and
Megan Schlecht (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) recorded the assists on Donohoo's goals while Gerber's goal was unassisted. The Warhawks outshot the Raiders 14-4 and Warhawk goalkeeper
Mary Scanlin (Waunakee/Waunakee) only had to make one save. MSOE had zero corner kicks to the Warhawks' nine.
Donohoo has scored eleven goals this season to improve her career total to thirty. The thirty goals ranks her fourth all-time in the Warhawk record book for career goals. Donohoo, a senior, has only played for the Warhawks for three seasons. She transferred from UW-Stevens Point after playing for the Pointers for one season (2004). As a Pointer she scored four goals. (Wendy Scott ranks first all-time in career goals at UW-Whitewater with forty-five. Scott played for UW-W from 1999-2002.)
UW-W is undefeated this season when they score two or more goals.
The Warhawks will travel to Madison on October 17 to square off against Edgewood College at Breese Stevens Field at 5:00 pm. The next home game for UW-W is on October 18 when they host the Blue Devils of UW-Stout at 12:30 pm at Fiskum Field.
