Warhawks Take Two More in New York

The fifteenth ranked Warhawks won all four of their matches this weekend at the Violet Classic in Manhattan, New York, hosted by New York University. On Friday the Warhawks defeated SUNY-New Paltz and Connecticut College. On Saturday, their first match was against NYU and the Warhawks prevailed by a score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-15). In their second and final match on Saturday, UW-W defeated the Rochester Institute of Technology 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 20-25, 25-12). The Warhawks improve to 18-6 overall.
 
The Warhawks controlled much of the match against NYU. The two teams entered the game with identical records. Six Warhawks notched five or more kills in the match. Only two Violets were able to reach that same mark.
 
UW-W's Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) led the way defensively with ten digs. Megan Peterson (Burlington/Burlington) had three of the Warhawks' eight blocks in the match. Christina DeGroot (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) had twenty-nine assists to lead the way for the 'Hawks.
 
Sixteen different Warhawks contributed to the victory over RIT. Keri Klotzbuecher (Clintonville/Clintonville) recorded twelve kills to lead the way for UW-W, and eleven more notched a kill. Stacy Karls (Lodi/Lodi) led the way in digs with twelve and Jillian Neave (Salem/Westosha Central) had the most assists with twenty-three. The Warhawks also recorded eighteen blocks in the match.
 
Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) earned tournament MVP honors with her performance over the weekend. Also making the all-tournament team from UW-Whitewater was DeGroot.
 
UW-W returns home on October 15 for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up with UW-Stevens Point beginning at 7:00 pm in the Williams Center Volleyball Arena.
