#2 Warhawks 14-0 After Win Over La Crosse

UW-Whitewater, ranked second in the national Division III poll, remained unbeaten with a 92-62 win over UW-La Crosse Wednesday evening in Kachel Gym in Williams Center in Whitewater.  Senior center Lindsey Buechner (Cross Plains/Middleton) became just the seventh player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 point mark, scoring  19 points to put her career total at 1,001.

Buechner led five Warhawks in double figures.  She was joined in double digits by Kelsey Hendrickson (Monroe/Monroe) with 16, Heidi Sonntag (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) with 13, 12 from Tiffany Morton (Beloit/Memorial), and 11 by Rachel Woolever (Colfax/Colfax).  Morton was also the game's leading rebounder, with seven.  Hendrickson added a game-high four assists, and was among three Warhawks with three steals (along with Trisha Thill (Belgium/Ozaukee) and Sonntag).  The Eagles were led by junior center Lindsay Wahl's 22 points.  Wahl hit 10-13 from the field.  She was the only UW-L player in double figures. 

Both teams used sixteen players in the game, and both teams had eleven players break in to the scoring column.

UW-W, which never trailed in the game, led 41-28 at halftime.  The Warhawks pushed the margin to 88-54 at 3:23 on a layup by Buechner, coincidentally points number 1,000 and 1,001 in her career. 

UW-Whitewater, the top scoring team in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and number three in NCAA III statistics, passed the 90 point mark for the sixth time this season. Whitewater shot 56% from the field in the game, the fifth time this season the Warhawks hit more than 50% from the floor.  The Warhawks also shot 47% (7-15) from three-point range, while ;the Eagles did not hit a shot from beyond the arc (0-6).

UW-Whitewater is 14-0 overall, the longest season-opening win streak ever in UW-W women's basketball, and 5-0 in the WIAC.  UW-La Crosse is 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC.

Whitewater will play at UW-Eau Claire Saturday, and return home to host UW-Stout Saturday, January 19 at 3:00.
