UW-W, the highest scoring team in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and number three in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, cracked the 90 point barrier for the seventh time this season with a 92-41 win over UW-Superior at Gates Gym in Superior, Wisconsin Saturday afternoon.

The teams traded baskets to open the game, but UW-W left no doubts with a 19-2 run to go up 21-2 with 14:13 left in the first half. Whitewater bumped up the lead again, this time with a 23-2 run to make it 47-8 at 7:04. The Warhawks went in to the locker room leading 61-17.
Whitewater shot 58% from the floor in the game, UW-Superior hit 30% of their shots. The Warhawks' defense also forced 30 Yellowjacket turnover.
UW-W equaled its season high with five players in double figures, with sophomore forward Nicole Bundy (Fredonia/Ozaukee) leading the way with 13. Sophomore center Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville) scored 12, and senior center Lindsey Buechner (Cross Plains/Middleton), junior center Dana Thompson (Belleville/Belleville) and Meghan Shmidt scored ten each. Thompson and Schmidt led UW-W with five rebounds each. Schmidt added to her all-around game with a team high four assists, sharing that mark with sophomore guard Sarah Moran (Waukesha/South). Thompson also blacked five shots, the best effort by a Warhawk this season and tied for nineteenth best in the UW-W record book. Freshman center Gigi Hudson led the Yellowjackets with ten points and seven rebounds. Amanda Rounsville, a junior center, chipped in with nine points and seven boards.
UW-W, ranked third in the D3hoop.com pool, is 17-1 overall and 7-1 in the WIAC. Superior is 4-13 overall and 1-8 in the WIAC.
UW-Whitewater will play Wednesday, Januarty 30 at UW-La Crosse. The next home game for the Warhawks will be Saturday, February 2 at 3:00 with UW-Eau Claire visiting Kachel Gim in Williams Center in a battle for first place in the WIAC. The February 2 game is also part of UW-W's celebration of National Girls and Women in Sport Day, with the Warhawk team autographing their poster after the game in the upper lobby of Williams Center.
