UW-Whitewater, ranked sixth in the D3hoops.com poll, maintained at least a portion of first place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an 86-55 win at UW-Superior Saturday afternoon.

The Warhawks used a 55-37 rebound advantage to key the victory. The 55 boards is the highest since UW-W grabbed 65 in a win over Grinnell College December 16, 2006, and the most Whitewater has pulled down in a WIAC game since they had 51 in a game versus UW-Stout December 5, 1998.
Superior had the lead as late as 21-19 at 6:32. From a 23-23 tie, UW-W used a 14-3 run to open a 37-26 lead with 1:07 in the half. Whitewater led 37-28 at halftime. In the first 5:39 of the second half the Warhawks out-scored UW-S 18-5 to lead 55-33. From that point UW-W eventually built the lead to 32 points, 77-45 at 5:12.
UW-W junior guard Matt Goodwin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) led all scorers with 26 points, and junior backcourt mate Myles McKay (Milwaukee/Menomonee Falls) added 20. Goodwin has scored 20+ points eight times this season, with six of those coming in the last seven games. Junior forward Kori Vernon (Madison/Memorial) grabbed a game high 15 rebounds, while also scoring in double figures, with 13 points. Vernon's 15 boards is a team season best and a personal collegiate high. Sophomore guard Kevin Koski (Jefferson/Jefferson) dished out a game high seven assists.
UW-Superior was led by freshman forwards Shane Manor and Jake Smith, with 17 and 14 points respectively.
Whitewater also built its winning margin at the free throw line, where the Warhawks made 28-48 charity tosses. UW-Superior was 9-11 at the line.
UW-Whitewater is 14-3 overall and 7-2 in the WIAC. Superior is 7-10 overall and 3-6 in the WIAC.
UW-W will host UW-La Crosse Wednesday, January 30 at 7:00 in Kachel Gym of Williams Center.
