The UW-Whitewater men's soccer team followed up a strong showing by the women's team recording a 13-0 victory of their own over Finlandia University on Saturday at Fiskum Field. The win improved the Warhawks overall record to 2-1 on the season. The thirteen goals ties the record for second most goals scored in a game. Past Warhawks teams scored thirteen goals on September 14, 1987 against Marian College and on September 18, 1988 against Ripon College.
Luke Bucholz (freshman, Whitewater) led the Warhawks in scoring with three total goals, his first career hat trick as a Warhawk. His first goal was registered just two minutes in to the contest with his second and third coming at the twelve and sixteen minute mark respectively. Other multiple goal scorers for the Warhawks were Jason Blocker (Lauderdale Lake, FL/Anderson) (senior, Lauderdale Lakes, FL/Boyd Anderson) and Jeff Derer (Madison/LaFollette) (senior, Milwaukee/Madison LaFollette), who each netted two goals. The Warhawks outshot the Lions 41-0 for the match.
Goalkeepers E.J. Sesselman (senior, Green Bay/Notre Dame) and Kevin Spry (Barrington, IL/Barrington) (sophomore, Hoffman Estates, Ill./Fremd) combined for the shutout.
The Warhawks return to the field Sunday, September 9, when they host Edgewood College at 2:00 pm for Family Day. Admission to Fiskum Field in Whitewater is free.
