Box Score vs. Illinois Wesleyan

The UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team, ranked #3 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, won both of their matches on Friday at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational in Bloomington, Illinois.  In match one the Warhawks faced conference opponent UW-Stevens Point and defeated them 3-0 (30-19, 30-23, 30-22).  In their second match of the day the Warhawks faced host Illinois Wesleyan and again found victory by defeating the Titans 3-0 (30-28, 30-27, 32-30).

In the first match fifteen different Warhawks contributed to the victory.  Leading the way were senior Kate Lazotte (Stoughton/Stoughton) (Stoughton) and juniors Lexi Algrim (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah), Stephanie Gardon (West Bend/West) (West Bend/West) and Kelly Annen (Madison/West) (Madison/West).  Lazotte recorded forty assists and ten digs while Gardon and Annen chipped in seven kills apiece.  Algrim recorded eight kills to go along with a team high three blocks.

The second match was tight throughout, with the Warhawks winning by three or less points each game.  Making significant contributions on the offensive end were Kelly Sorensen (Madison/Memorial) (sophomore, Madison/Memorial), Abby Schultz (Appleton/Kimberly) (senior, Appleton/Kimberly), and Sarah Theis (Lodi/Lodi) (senior, Lodi).  Each of the three Warhawks recorded double digit kills.  Defensively it was Kristina Conlin (Williams Bay/Williams Bay) (sophomore, Williams Bay), Rebekah Nelson (Delavan/Williams Bay) (senior, Delavan/Williams Bay), and Lazotte leading the way for the Warhawks as they each tallied ten or more digs each.

The Warhawks (6-1) will continue competition at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, September 8th, when they face Illinois College (0-4) at 10:00 am and Blackburn College (1-3) at 12:15 pm.
