#3 Warhawks Defeat Elmhurst 3-1

Box Score

The #3 ranked UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team (4-1) defeated the Elmhurst Bluejays (0-5) on Tuesday night 3-1 (30-18, 30-23, 30-32, 30-21) at the Williams Center in UW-Whitewater.  After being upset by Birmingham Southern in their home tournament this past weekend the Warhawks came out fast going up by nine before the Bluejays could get on the scoreboard.  The Bluejays would never come within those nine points and the Warhawks would go on to take the game 30-18.  Kelly Sorensen (Madison/Memorial)(sophomore, Madison/Memorial) and Carley Polk (Dousman/Mukwonago) (senior, Dousman/Mukwonago) led the way for the Warhawks in the first game with five and four kills respectively.

The second game was much of the same as the Warhawks went on to a seven point victory with Polk again leading the charge for the Warhawks with seven more kills.  The third game was close the entire way but the Bluejays would prevail 32-20.  Finally, in the fourth game, the Warhawks were able to seal the victory by taking an early lead that they would never relinquish.

Other Warhawks contributing to the victory included Kristina Conlin (Williams Bay/Williams Bay) (sophomore, Williams Bay) who tallied three service aces and eight digs; Kelly Annen (Madison/West) (junior, Madison/West) who recorded eleven digs; and Kate Lazotte (Stoughton/Stoughton) (senior, Stoughton) who provided forty-three assists.
