Siemon Wins Twice, Singles and Doubles

Amy Siemon (fr, Crystal Lake, IL/South) went 6-0 to capture the singles title at the Fall Classic hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota September 20-22.

Siemon defeated Christine Long of the College of Saint Benedict (MN) 7-6 (4), 6-7 (7), 10-4 in the championship match of the Fall Classic

Siemon has a chance to add the doubles title to her weekend accomplishments.  Siemon and partner Brittany Gering (Greendale/Greendale) (jr, Greendale) went 4-0 to advance to the title match.  UW-W teammates Michelle Daciolas (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) (so, Roselle, IL) and Kelly Rutkowski (Waunakee/Waunakee) (so, Waunakee) also went 4-0 to advance.  Because the title match involved all UW-W players, and because of the travel time involved, it was decided to settle the matter in a match on the Whitewater courts Monday.  (Edited Tuesday 12:58 p.m.     Siemon/Gering defeated Daciolas/Rutkowski 8-3.   Siemon adds doubles title to her singles victory.)

The tennis competition at Saint Peter was divided into two tournaments.  The Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional was for players 1-4 on the participating teams, while the Fall Classic was for any other players teams wished to bring to that competition.

UW-W's top finish in the ITA Regional was something of a surprise.  Jessie Farrar (sr, Rock Island, IL) and Lauren Fahl (Brookfield/Brookfield Central) (fr, Brookfield/Central) were paired up in doubles play, but Fahl became ill.  Katherine Smith (Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) (sr, Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) stepped in, and Farrar and Smith won two matches before falling in the quarterfinals.  Farrar and Smith had never played doubles together prior to the weekend.

UW-W will play at UW-Stevens Point Tuesday, October 2.   The next home matches will be Wednesday, October 10, with Concordia (WI) and UW-Oshkosh playing on the Wangerin Courts south of Williams Center.  The Whitewater-Oshkosh match will be at 3:30, with Concordia-Whitewater at 6:30.  There is no admission charge for home matches.
