Warhawks Raise Mark to 7-1 with Win at St. Thomas

UW-Whitewater, raised its record to 7-1 with a 3-1 win over the University of Saint Thomas 3-1 Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

UW-W scored quickly, just 1:18 in to the game, with Nick Haertel (Greenfield/Pius) (so, Greenfield/Pius) notching his second of the season off an assist from Dan Montanye (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) (fr, Mukwonago).  Haertel's goal is the quickest UW-W has scored this season, besting the previous mark of 2:00 against Finlandia University September 8.

Saint Thomas tied the score with a goal at 28:56, with Tommy Jungwirth scoring off a Mike Molitor assist.  The half ended with the score knotted at 1-1.

Whitewater's Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) (fr, Whitewater) put in the game winner off a pass to the middle and a shot in to the bottom right of the net.  Wes Lomnicki (Elmhurst, IL/York Community) (sr, Elmhurt, IL/York) assisted on Buchholz's game winner, his team leading seventh goal of the season.

UW-W's Abdoulaye Camara (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso West Africa/) (so, Burkina Faso West Africa) added the final tally at 76:24, assisted by Matt Gehn (Oregon/Oregon) (so, Oregon). 

UW-Whitewater out-shot Saint Thomas 16-7.  Warhawk goalie E.J. Sesselmann (Green Bay/Notre Dame) (sr, Green Bay/Notre Dame) made two saves.  Dan Hutton and Cameron Roemhildt each played one half in the nets for Saint Thomas. 

The Warhawks have won six consecutive matches, with the Saint Thomas goal the first UW-W has allowed in the string and just the third given up this season.

Saint Thomas is 5-3-1.  Saint Thomas leads the all-time series 3-2. 

UW-Whitewater is ranked ninth in the Central Region in the latest D3kicks.com Central Region poll.

UW-Whitewater will play at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa Thursday, September 27.  The next home match for the Warhawks will be October 11, with Aurora University visiting Fiskum Field on the north end of the UW-W campus.
