The Warhawk men's soccer team defeated St. Mary's University 4-0 Tuesday afternoon in Whitewater, Wisconsin. UW-Whitewater scored three out of four goals in the first half.
Julius Sekyi (Greenfield/Whitnall) (fr, Greenfield) started the afternoon with scoring a goal on a wide open net just nine minutes into the game. Nick Haertel (Greenfield/Pius) (so, Greenfield) followed with a goal twenty minutes into the game. UW-Whitewater made it a 3-0 game with a Dan Montonye (fr, Mukwonago) penalty kick at the twenty-four minute mark. Whitewater had thirteen shots in the first half to St. Mary's one.
The only goal scored in the second half was by Luke Bucholz (fr, Whitewater). St. Mary's University had five goal keeper saves with one save from Jim Schultz (fr, Kenosha) and four saves from Jon Szafranski (so, Barrington, IL).
Whitewater has won five games in a row and has outscored opponents 26-0 in those five games. All six of Whitewater's wins have been shutouts. Whitewater is ranked 9th in the Central Region by National Soccer Coaches Association.
Whitewater will face University of St. Thomas at St. Paul Minnesota at 12:00 p.m. on September 23. The Warhawks next home game will be October 11, at 3:00 p.m. against Aurora University.
