#3 Warhawks Lose to #2, Defeat #4

UW-Whitewater, ranked third in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, lost to second ranked Juniata College 3-0 (31-29, 30-27, 30-21) and defeated number four Washington University 3-1 (28-30, 30-24, 30-27, 30-24) Saturday in the Teri Clemens Invitational at Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri. 

Abby Schultz (Appleton/Kimberly) (senior, OH, Appleton/Kimberly) led UW-W with 10 kills in the loss to Juniata.  Sara Theis (senior, MB, Lodi) added nine kills and a team high .533 hitting percentage.  Tina Conlin (sophomore, L, Williams Bay) contributed a team season best 24 digs.

Senior Carley Polk (Dousman/Mukwonago) (MB, Dousman/Mukwonago) recorded 17 kills and 7 blocks to lead the Warhawks to the win over Washington.  Kelly Sorensen (Madison/Memorial) (sophomore, OH, Madison/Memorial) added 11 kills and 12 digs, and Kate Lazotte (Stoughton/Stoughton) (senior, S, Stoughton) passed for 49 assists.  UW-W managed the win despite hitting just .129.

UW-W defeated fourteenth ranked University of LaVerne (Calif.) 3-2 Friday evening in the Clemens tourney.

UW-W, 10-2, will open the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season at home, hosting UW-La Crosse Wednesday, September 19 at 7:00 in the Williams Center.
