The fifth-ranked UW-Whitewater Warhawks defeated Widener College (PA) 73-42 Saturday at the Surf City Classic in Irvine, California to remain unbeaten at 11-0.

The Warhawks settled the issue early, using a 19-2 start in the first seven minutes to set the tone. UW-W also came out of the locker room quickly after halftime, blitzing Widener 23-0, holding the Pioneers scoreless for the first 11:47 of the second half.
Junior center
Tiffany Morton (Beloit/Memorial) led the Warhawks with a double double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior center
Lindsey Buechner (Cross Plains/Middleton) led both teams with 18 points, and junior forward
Meghan Schmidt (Port Washington/Port Washington) was also in double figures with 10 points.
Freshman forward Kylie Walton led Widener, 6-4, with nine points.
Whitewater forced Widener in to 36 turnovers, the most by a UW-W opponent this year and the third time the Warhawk defense has created more than 30 turnovers by an opponent this season. UW-W's defense also limited Widener to 25% shooting from the floor (13-53).
UW-W brought nineteen players on the trip and all of them saw action in the game.
Whitewater will play the University of Mary Washington (VA) Sunday at 6:00 (Central) in Irvine. The next home game for the Warhawks will be Wednesday, January 9 with UW-La Crosse visiting Kachel Gym in Williams Center for a 7:00 tipoff.
