Warhawks 7-1 After Win Over Stritch

UW-Whitewater, ranked fifteenth in the D3hoops.com poll, defeated Cardinal Stritch College 95-50 Tuesday evening in Kachel Gym in Williams Center.

The Warhawks used 8-0, 7-0 and 11-0 runs in the first half to build a 53-30 halftime lead.  UW-W senior forward Rob Perry (Milwaukee/Dominican) had 16 points, including 7-7 from the free throw line, in the first half.  Much of the lead was built at the line, where the Warhawks made 13-14 free throws in the first twenty minutes, while the Wolves were 4-5.

Whitewater continued to pull away in the second half.  Coach Pat Miller used seventeen players, and twelve of them broke in to the scoring column.  Perry led the way with 18, playing just six minutes in the second half.  Junior center Kori Vernon (Madison/Memorial) added 13 points, junior guard Matt Goodwin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) 12, and senior center Josh King (Janesville/Craig) 10.  Goodwin also led both teams with four assists.  Senior forward Billy Kolinske (Big Bend/Waukesha Memorial) was the game's top rebounder, with seven.

Cardinal Stritch had two players in double figures.  Freshman guard Pat Barron and and junior forward Trey Triplett both scored ten points for the Wolves.

UW-W pulled down 48 rebounds to 28 for CSC.  UW-W had a season low seven turnovers, and Cardinal Stritch had nineteen.

Whitewater's next game will be Saturday, December 29 at 5:00 against Saint John's University (MN) in a tournament hosted by Saint Norbert College in DePere.  That tourney will also be played the 30th, with UW-W playing at 3:00 or 5:00, depending on first night results.  The next home game for the Warhawks will be January 2 at 7:00 with North Central College in Kachel Gym.
