Warhawks Cruise in Victory over Carroll

UW-Whitewater defeated Carroll College 70-51 Tuesday evening in Van Male Field House in Waukesha, Wisconsin, in a non-conference match-up.

With Whitewater leading 10-7 at the 14:55 mark, the Warhawks held Carroll without a shot for five minutes and twenty-two seconds, corresponding to a 17-0 run to make the score 27-7.  The lead was never less than 13 points the rest of the way, and reached 26 points, 66-40, with 5:52 left in the game.

The Warhawks shot 61 percent from the field in the first half in building the lead, and they out-rebounded Carroll 22-10.  Senior center Josh King (Janesville/Craig) led UW-W with twelve points and eight rebounds in the first half.

Whitewater shot 56 percent for the game, while holding the Pioneers to 34 percent from the floor.  The Warhawks also enjoyed a 42-25 rebound advantage, with King grabbing a career-high fourteen to lead both teams.

Junior guard Matt Goodwin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) and senior forward Rob Perry (Milwaukee/Dominican) added fourteen points apiece for the Warhawks.  UW-W coach Pat Miller was able to use fourteen players in the game.

Carroll College was led by junior guard Wes Ladwig, who had a game high 26 points.  Sophomore guard John Hoch was also in double digits with ten points.

UW-Whitewater, ranked 25th in the D3hoops.com preseason poll, improves to 3-0, while Carroll falls to 0-3.

The Warhawks next game will be the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener December 1st against UW-Stevens Point.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 at the Kachel Gymnasium in the Williams Center.  The game is part of a double-header with the women's basketball team, which will also host UW-Stevens Point, that game starting at 3:00.
