UW-Whitewater, ranked twenty-fifth in the Division III pre-season poll, opened the season with a 79-45 win over Eureka College Friday evening in the second game of the Tip-Off Tournament in the Kachel Gym of Wiliams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Whitewater jumped out to a 10-0, with sophomore guard Kevin Koski (Jefferson/Jefferson) contributing four of the points on free throws. Eureka came back to tie the game 12-12 at 11:42. Whitewater followed with a 10-0 run, 22-12, with junior forward Billy Kolinske (Big Bend/Waukesha Memorial) accounting for eight of the ten points. That ten point deficit was as close as Eureka would get, only equaled by the 26-16 margin. Whitewater led by as many as sixteen, 36-20 at 2:33 in the half.
UW-W steadily built on its lead in the second half, eventually up to 77-42 with 2:09 remaining.
Twelve Warhawks scored in the game. Center Josh King (Janesville/Craig), guard Matt Goodwin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) and Kolinske had twelve points each for UW-W. King went 6-6 from the field, and Kolinske was 4-4. Senior forward Rob Perry (Milwaukee/Dominican) went 6-6 from the free throw line and led UW-W with three steals.
Nine of Whitewater's winning margin came at the free throw line, where the Warhawks were 18-29 and Eureka was 9-19. Whitewater shot 56% from the field, and limited EC to 35%. The Warhawks also almost doubled Eureka in rebounding, totaling 35 to 18 for the Red Devils.
Milwaukee School of Engineering defeated North Park College 69-63 in the opening game of the Tip-Off Tourney. Scott Murphy led MSOE with sixteen points and nine rebounds.
Whitewater will play MSOE at 7:00 Saturday, with Eureka and North Park playing in the third place game at 5:00.
