UW-Whitewater, the top seed in the WIAC women's volleyball tournament and ranked seventh in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, advanced to the second round with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-16) victory over eight-seed UW-Stout Tuesday night in UW-W's Williams Center.

Offensively, it was Kate Lazotte (Stoughton/Stoughton) (Sr/Stoughton) leading the Warhawks with forty-three assists.  Kelly Sorensen (Madison/Memorial) (So/Madison Memorial) paced UW-W with fifteen kills to go along with her thirteen digs.  Rebekah Nelson (Delavan/Williams Bay) (Sr/Delavan/Williams Bay) and Abby Schultz (Appleton/Kimberly) (Sr/Appleton/Kimberly) added eleven kills apiece.  Sarah Theis (Lodi/Lodi) (Sr/Lodi) had four blocks for the Warhawks.

Stout was led by Jenna Swanson (So/Hayfield, Minn.) who tallied ten kills and three digs.  Also aiding the Blue Devils defense were Alicia Mizer (So/Barron), Kim Labat (Fr/Marshall, Minn.), and Linda Meyer (Sr/Cedarburg) who recorded thirteen, eleven, and ten digs respectively.  The loss ends the season for the Blue Devils.

The Warhawks, the regular season conference champion, which earned them the first place seed in the conference tournament, won the conference tournament in 2006, and they will continue their quest to repeat against fourth-seeded UW-La Crosse on Friday, November 2 at 7:30 pm in Whitewater.

Whitewater will be the site of the final four for the conference tournament this weekend, November 2 and 3.  The semifinal matches will be played at 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm on Friday with the winners advancing to the championship match on Saturday.  The winner of the conference tournament receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
