Warhawks Win Seventh Straight in WIAC

Box Score

After defeating UW-Stout in a sweep on Friday, the Warhawks made a forty-three mile ride west to defeat UW-River Falls 3-1 (30-22, 30-23, 31-33, 30-18) on Saturday for their seventh straight win in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The win keeps the Warhawks in sole possession of first place in the WIAC with a one game lead over UW-Oshkosh.

River Falls (6-24, 1-7), on the losing end of fourteen of their last fifteen matches, was able to get a game from the Warhawks but were never much of a threat other than that.

Similar to their match against UW-Stout of Friday the Warhawks used a balanced attack to defeat the Falcons.  Kelly Sorensen (Madison/Memorial) (sophomore, Madison/Memorial) and Carley Polk (Dousman/Mukwonago) (senior, Dousman/Mukwonago) each notched thirteen kills while Kelly Annen (Madison/West) (junior, Madison/West) recorded eleven.  Four other Warhawks recorded five or more kills in the match.  On the assist end of most of those kills was Kate Lazotte (Stoughton/Stoughton) (senior, Stoughton) who tallied thirty-seven assists in the match.

Defensively, Kristina Conlin (Williams Bay/Williams Bay) (sophomore, Williams Bay) dug up twenty-five balls while Sorensen dug up twenty-three.  Another four players recorded double-digit figures in the dig category.  Conlin also served two aces in the match.

The Falcons got strong performances from Kelsey Scheele (16 kills, 29 digs), Courtney Schroeder (10 kills and 17 digs) and Emily Hagen (22 assists, 14 digs).

The Warhawks, winners of their last four matches, will travel to Oshkosh on Wednesday, October 24, to take on the Titans who are ranked fourth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll.  This will be the first time the two teams have met this year.  The last time these two teams met was on October 25, 2006 when the Titans were second in the WIAC and the Warhawks were in first.  The Titans defeated the Warhawks 3-2 (31-29, 30-32, 31-29, 14-30, 18-16).
