Improving their record in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to 6-0 was the UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team as they defeated UW-Stout 3-0 (30-25, 31-29, 30-18) on Friday in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
The Warhawks, 22-4 overall and ranked eighth in the latest division III American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 poll, swept the Blue Devils using a balanced attack. Senior Sarah Theis (Lodi/Lodi) (Lodi) led the Warhawks with nine kills while four others recorded five or more kills apiece. Theis also recorded three blocks. Kate Lazotte (Stoughton/Stoughton) (senior, Stoughton), ranked fifteenth in the country for assists per game, registered thirty-five assists for the match
Defensively it was sophomores Kelly Sorensen (Madison/Memorial) (Madison/Memorial) and Kristina Conlin (Williams Bay/Williams Bay) (Williams Bay) that led the way, recording fifteen and thirteen digs respectively.
UW-Stout was led by Casey Huntoon (senior, Mantorville, Minn./Byron), who tallied twenty-three digs, and Maggie Meixl (junior, Mankato, Minn./West), who put down nine kills.
The Warhawks are on the road again Saturday when they travel to UW-River Falls for a noon match. River Falls has not defeated Whitewater in women's volleyball since 2003.
