The UW-Whitewater Warhawks defeated the UW-Platteville Pioneers 2-1 in overtime Wednesday, October 17 at Fiskum Field.  UW-W's eleventh shut out of the season also upped the Warhawks' unbeaten streak to thirteen games (twelve wins and a tie).  The UW-Whitewater men's soccer team is ranked eighteenth in the D3kicks.com national poll released today.

Platteville's Blake Beetham (fr, McFarland) was the first to score, in the second half at 16:53. He was assisted by Tyler Holle (so, Bettendorf, IA).

UW-W tied the contest with 1:20 left in the game.  Kyle Bast (Hartland/Arrowhead)  (jr, Hartland) had a straight shot to the goal and scored unassisted to send the game into overtime. 

Dan Montayne (fr, Mukwonago) put in the game winner for the Warhawks with 2:54 left in the overtime period on another unassisted goal from straight out in front.

UW-W goalkeeper E.J. Sesselmann (Green Bay/Notre Dame) (sr, Green Bay/Notre Dame) made three saves, all in the first half, to record the shutout.   Sesselmann is fourth in the country in goals allowed per game, according to this week's National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III statistics. Platteville goalie, Kris Bosshart (so, Woodbury, MN) made two saves, both in the first half. 

Whitewater took fourteen shots on goal, four in the first half.  Platteville had eleven shots, also four in the first half.

The Warhawks are ranked fifth in both team goals against average (0.28 goals/game) and team shutout percentage (0.79) in the NCAA III statistics.  Additionally, UW-W is ranked among the top teams in two other categoriesm, eighth in save percentage (0.897) and eleventh in won-lost-tied percentage (0.893).

UW-W is 13-1-1.  Platteville is 9-6-1.

The Whitewater Warhawks will face UW-Superior (5-5-1) Saturday, October 20 at 12:00.  The match will be played at Fiskum Field on the UW-Whitewater campus.
