Warhawks Defeated by #1 Juniata, 3-1

Box Score

Third ranked UW-Whitewater faced off against number one ranked Juniata College on Friday for the second time this season, this time at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational, and lost 3-1 (28-30, 32-30, 34-32, 30-25).  The last time these two teams met, September 15, 2007, the result was the same, only Whitewater was swept in that match.

Juniata (22-2), who has not lost to a NCAA Division III school this year, came back to win the last three games of the match after dropping the first to the Warhawks.  Games two and three took extra points for Juniata to secure the victory.

Leading the way for UW-Whitewater was Kate Lazotte (Stoughton/Stoughton) (senior, Stoughton) who recorded 55 assists.  Lazotte ranks fifteenth in NCAA Division III for assists per game.  Offensively there were several other Warhawks able to record a double digit figure, but in the kills category.  Tallying double figures for kills were Abby Schultz (Appleton/Kimberly) (senior, Appleton/Kimberly), 12; Rebekah Nelson (Delavan/Williams Bay) (senior, Delavan/Williams Bay), 10; Kelly Sorensen (Madison/Memorial) (sophomore, Madison/Memorial), 14; Carley Polk (Dousman/Mukwonago) (senior, Dousman/Mukwonago), 10; and Sarah Theis (Lodi/Lodi) (senior, Lodi), 14.

Defensively there were five players to record double figure dig marks.  Kristina Conlin (Williams Bay/Williams Bay) (sophomore, Williams Bay) led the way with twenty-four digs, while Shultz, Nelson, Lazotte and Sorensen were also able to register double figures.

The Warhawks, ranked twentieth in NCAA Division III in both assists per game and kills per game have not played since October 6, 2007.  The loss snaps a ten match win streak for the Warhawks that included four sweeps.

Whitewater (19-3) plays again on Friday at 7:15 pm when they face Carthage College, ranked 9th in the country with a 20-2 overall record, in their second match of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.
