Whitewater's second match of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational on Friday was against ninth ranked Carthage College, who swept the Warhawks 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-32).
Against Carthage, the Warhawks ran out of steam as they were swept in three games. The last time these two teams met, September 15, 2006, the Warhawks defeated Carthage in five games.
Giving a solid defensive effort for the Warhawks were Kristina Conlin (Williams Bay/Williams Bay) (sophomore, Williams Bay), nineteen digs, and Abby Schultz (Appleton/Kimberly) (senior, Appleton/Kimberly), eighteen digs. Offensively, only Schultz was able to make it to double digit kills with twelve. Alyse Karls (Dane/Lodi) (sophomore, Dane/Lodi) led the team in assists with twenty three.
This loss, coupled with the loss to Juniata earlier on Friday, are the first back to back match losses Whitewater has experienced since September 22, 2006 when they dropped four consecutive matches before going on to win twenty three of their last twenty five matches.
UW-Whitewater (19-4) continues play at the UW-Oshkosh invitational on Saturday when they take on the Eagles of UW-La Crosse, ranked nineteenth in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, at 10:00 am. The Warhawks will play again at 12:15 pm against a team from pool B that will be determined after their match against UW-La Crosse.
