WHITEWATER, WI — The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater played Carroll University to a 0-0 tie on Monday evening at Robert W. Fiskum Field. UWW held a 14-8 shot advantage and a 10-1 edge in corner kicks, including 10 shots and seven corners in the second half.
The Warhawks created early first-half pressure with four shots and three corner kicks. UW-Whitewater opened with a corner in the first minute, then
Jenna Laidlaw (Aberdeen, Scotland/Aberdeen Grammar) and
Leah Dehne (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) each put attempts wide during an active first nine minutes.
Lauren Ripley (Brookfield, Wis./East) handled the Pioneers' best first-half looks, saving shots in the 23rd and 29th minutes to keep the match at 0-0.
UWW pushed again late with a
Brooklynn Carlson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) shot in the 34th minute and back-to-back corners in the 41st and 42nd minutes, but the half ended without a goal.
In the second half, UWW generated 10 shots and seven corner kicks, but could not find a goal as the match finished 0-0.
Jasmine Wilson (Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) and
Genevieve Simkowski (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) put attempts over the frame before
Brinley Dunsirn (Appleton, Wis./North) forced a save from the Pioneer keeper after a corner in the 53rd minute.
The Pios had an opportunity to go up in the 58th minute with a penalty kick from a handball inside the box, but the Warhawks held them off the board as the kick went off the top woodwork to keep the game scoreless.
Lauren Ripley (Brookfield, Wis./East) kept the Pioneers off the board with saves in the 56th and 76th minutes. Ripley played all 90 minutes in goal, making four saves for a shutout.
UWW kept pressing from there, with Wilson,
Isabella Torres (Joliet, Ill./Central),
Tessa Czajkowski Higgins (Prairie du Chien, Wis./Prairie du Chien) and
Rachel Cvikel (Franklin, Wis./Saint Thomas More) all taking chances before the final push.
The Warhawks earned three corners from 81:39 to 85:21, and
Rowan Severson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) put a shot on frame at 87:18 before the Pioneers' last attempt went wide as time expired.
The Warhawks return to Fiskum Field for their next game, taking on Wheaton College on Wednesday, September 23rd at 7 PM.
