NAPERVILLE, IL — The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team fell in a close 1-0 battle against North Central College on Tuesday. The Warhawks were held to three shots and one on goal, while NCC finished with eight shots and four on frame.
The Warhawks fell behind early, in the 16th-minute when the Cardinals found the back of the net to make it 1-0. NCC pressed again soon after with three corner kicks between over the next three minutes, while UW-Whitewater worked through a physical stretch that included three Warhawks fouls from 26:51 to 29:30 with the score still 1-0.
Lauren Ripley (Brookfield, Wis./East) started in goal for UW-Whitewater, and limited the damage after the early goal despite the Cardinals earning five first-half corner kicks.
The Warhawks generated a late look when
Isabella Torres (Joliet, Ill./Central) sent a shot out high at 44:28, but the half ended with NCC ahead 1-0.
UW-Whitewater kept NCC off the board in the second half but could not overturn the match's 1-0 score.
Ripley made saves in the 58th and 67th minutes as the Warhawks absorbed three NCC corner kicks and multiple attacking looks in the opening stretch after halftime.
Jasmine Wilson (Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) sent a shot high left in the 53rd minute, and
Brooklynn Carlson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) put UW-Whitewater's lone second-half chance on frame in the 74th before NCC's keeper saved it.
Ripley recorded three saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal. Carlson put her lone shot on goal for UW-Whitewater.
